We’ve recently been doing Meatless Monday.

Yeah, I know it’s a catchy phrase (actually it is an international health initiative encouraging people to go meatless one day a week) and is being used more and more lately, but we decided to get on the movement and give it a try.

Most of the inspiration to do so came from my daughter-in-law.  She recommended that we watch a documentary on Netflix about plant-based diets and the benefits. ‘Game Changers‘ is about eating only a plant-based diet and the effects it has on your lifestyle.  It is interesting but upon further search (Google) I read where it is a biased documentary with misleading information.  Personally, this doesn’t affect our household of two – we like our meat and have no intention of turning into vegetarians or vegans! One of Dixie’s and my favorite “mini” vacations is to travel north through Alton, Illinois, then along the Great River Road,

…..making our way to the little town of Grafton and then a bit further to spend a night or two at the Pere Marquette Lodge, built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps.  We first learned of Pere Marquette a few years ago when they were offering something called the ‘Eagle’ Package from December through February.  It included a night in either one of their hotel type rooms or even better one of their rustic stone cabins. The key word being rustic.  They are somewhat dated, but have all the amenities you need and the bed guarantees a great night of sleep. We’ve always chosen the cabin.  If you want to know more about this place, just let us know and we’d be delighted to share what we know. Continue reading “Great River Road”

One of our grandsons recently came to visit us and I had to take him back home on Thursday, February 27, 2020.

On our two and a half hour drive we talked about a lot of things.  He had lots of questions and even some theories of his own about things I, honestly, haven’t given a lot of thought to.

We talked about the “Dark Side of the Moon”.

I told him it was a classic Pink Floyd song and he laughed.  He said, “No, PaPa, the dark side of the moon in the sky.”  I knew what he meant, but was really testing him to see if he knew who the classic rock band, Pink Floyd was.  I was impressed that he did know.
