UPDATE:  The last time I made this Golden Milk Paste,  I turned the heat off, left the saucepan on the hot burner and then added the coconut oil.  It was a little easier to incorporate the coconut oil into the paste mixture.

This magic mixture has really helped me!

And you can drink it at bedtime to help with sleep.

Back in October of last year, I did something silly and was not exactly acting my age.  Fun, but paid the price when I heard something pop in my hip (or was it my leg, or my back??).  I tried to act as if I was OK and go on as normal since we were on vacation in Mexico.  BUT the next morning when I could hardly walk to breakfast was when I realized I had done some damage.

I was hardly prepared for how much damage I had actually done.  It didn’t get better upon our return home, only worse.
So, long story short, 10 months later and 3 months of physical therapy, I will admit surgery has entered my mind.  I’ve had an MRI which showed nothing significant….but the pain has been significant!  It’s really haltered my life – or I should say OUR lives.  We’ve canceled several things and done a lot of things differently since October due to my inability to enjoy things I was enjoying prior to.

THEN recently my friend, Stacey, gave me a recipe for Golden Milk.  We were visiting and she mentioned her issues (which make mine sound minor) and how much this ‘Golden Milk’ had helped her.  And I was thinking, “at this point, I’m open to anything to take the place of OTC Ibuprofen”!

So, I procrastinated purchasing some of the ingredients (which I did not have on hand) for a couple of weeks.  Shopping during Covid is interesting to say the least and I don’t enjoy going out shopping as much as I did once upon a time (….and, that’s another story).

This is the recipe exactly as she sent it to me:

“This has helped me tremendously for pain.  I drink it every morning instead of coffee.”

I’ve never heard of this recipe before (maybe I’ve been living in a cave) but after researching Golden Milk there is a lot of recipes out there similar to this one.  I’m not sure where this one came from but many thanks to the original author and to Stacy.  Because I’m here to tell you, if you have inflammation (or possibly one of the other ailments listed above), you should give this a try.

This recipe mentions stirring it in warm almond or coconut milk.  I personally drink mine in my coffee with a little organic unsweetened almond milk and omit the honey.  You can explore options and see what suits your taste best.  I will say that it takes some stirring to get it dissolved and the warmer the liquid the better.  And, I usually find a little residue left in the bottom of my coffee cup if i don’t continue to stir it as I’m drinking it.

And Stacy recently mentioned that getting the coconut oil fully incorporated is a full arm workout!

I find the taste to be very tolerable.  It actually tastes like I’m drinking flavored coffee – cinnamon is the most prevalent spice that I detect. (It is not very desirable to look at in your bowl you are storing it in in the refrigerator.  Paul calls it muck!  But if the muck works, go for it!)

I’m a firm believer that not everything works for everyone.  But, if you can do something this simple and get any relief or results it is well worth the cost of these ingredients!
