We’re in the process of having our kitchen cabinets painted.  Everything is going along well and the expected timeline for completion of the painting is around 1 week.  So Exciting!!

We considered painting the cabinets ourselves but felt like it might be a little over-whelming.  The thought even crossed my mind that we would start the project and realize that we could not or did not want to finish it.  Then what?

So, we hired White Pineapple Cabinet Painting, a local painting company to do the work for us.  (As mentioned in my last post- we are using our vacation funds since vacation got cancelled this year.  Thanks Covid.)  White Pineapple has been great to work with and the owner, Denise, and her all female team has been very responsive and helpful.  You can also check out their Facebook Page and see before and after photos, including our kitchen cabinets!

White Pineapple removed all the door and drawer facings and painted them off site.  All of the stationary, base cabinets, are being painted on site.  We’ve still been able to use our kitchen which was important to me.  I did not like the idea of plastic being placed over the cabinets and enclosing the contents.  Even if it was for a few days, that is a few days too many not to be able to grab what you need and want from your kitchen!

And, while the cabinet doors have been removed it’s a great time to stand back and look at the big picture and realize you need to better organize everything.

One thing led to another and we’ve decided a few more updates for the kitchen were in order.  So, we:

    • Enlarged the island
    • Re-used the existing island granite countertop and added some new cabinets to make a coffee bar
    • Changed all door pulls from brushed nickle to black
    • Installed new bumpers on all doors and drawers
    • Installed two new outlets for the coffee bar
    • Installed new lighting over the island, sink and kitchen table
    • Added dimmer switches
    • Installed a new microwave

And, also, we are in the process of purchasing four new bar stools for the island, chairs for the table that Paul is building, (more on that once it’s finished!), and new rugs.

In the process of expanding kitchen island, adding new cabinetry on an existing wall and deciding on a Quartz color to tie everything together.

I think we will spend a lot of time at the new, expanded island.  I can see us eating most of our meals there, doing a few small craft projects and working on our blog.  And still have plenty of room for slicing and dicing.

We did all the work ourselves except for painting the cabinets and, of course, cutting and installing the Quartz and Granite. We even installed the microwave – We paid for the installation but there was a total disconnect with the company we purchased from (I’ll be nice and not mention any names here) and also from the installers.  So, we eventually gave up and installed it ourselves.  We had already removed the old microwave and we were without one.  You don’t realize how much you use your microwave until you don’t have it!

The kitchen has been in somewhat of a disarray for about 3 weeks.  But we have still been able to use the kitchen for cooking and prepping.  We’ve undeniably had to make a few revisions.  But it is going to be so worth it when everything is completed.

BEFORE and AFTER photos!
