We all have a go-to banana bread recipe.

Mine was always my mother’s recipe that I’ve made for years. It’s written on an old, stained index card and it’s ‘many’ years old…..
But a few years ago I started changing things up a bit adding ingredients you wouldn’t normally find in an old-fashioned banana bread recipe…

…Like cayenne pepper.

This Cowboy Cookie recipe, also known as Texas Governor’s Mansion Cookies, is Laura Bush’s recipe.  They are filled with oats, chocolate chips, shredded coconut and walnuts!

Recently my sister-in-law texted me a link with a picture of a cookie and the title read ‘Cowboy Cookie’.  I’m always cautious about opening things even if it’s a link from a family member- accounts hacked, spam, etc. Continue reading “Cowboy Cookies – Small Batch”

Chocolate Glazed Chocolate Tart

You can’t go wrong with CHOCOLATE and RASPBERRIES

Drunken Raspberries!

Recently my sister shared this recipe with me.  She prepared this dessert for their Valentine’s Day celebration.  Albeit it was a few days after Valentine’s Day – but better late than never.  Her new puppy had spay surgery on Valentine’s, plus she had worked that day and the dessert just didn’t happen. Valentine’s Day Chocolate Bourbon Covered Strawberries

Chocolate Covered Strawberries with a twist…Bourbon

Boozy Chocolate Strawberries

Years ago we decided it’s not worth the hassle to go out on Valentine’s Day.  After a few disappointing meals, very long wait times and crowded restaurants, we’ve opted to have a nice meal at home.  This year it was cold and dreary so we dined in our pajamas!  You can’t do that in public.  Well, I guess you can but we choose not to.

For dinner we had fresh Mediterranean salmon, asparagus and quinoa.  But the highlight of the meal was the dessert – strawberries dipped in chocolate bourbon sauce then rolled in finely chopped walnuts.  A couple of weeks ago I made Chocolate Bourbon Cake and I had  a small amount of leftover icing that I had drizzled over the cake.  I put it in the frig in a small, sealed container thinking I would find a way to put it to good use.  It was just too good to throw out! Chocolate Bourbon Cake

Chocolate bourbon cake with cayenne pepper, iced in chocolate bourbon icing and topped with nuts.

Chocolate Bourbon Cake by Dixie Yakes

We have a birthday this weekend!  We are celebrating Paul’s birthday. When I asked him what kind of cake he wanted, he said chocolate (exactly what I was thinking).  So, I asked him how a cake with bourbon, chocolate and cayenne pepper sounded.  He said I had him at bourbon and spicy.

Our oldest daughter and her husband will be in town visiting this weekend and will be here to help us eat this decadent dessert. Continue reading “Chocolate Bourbon Cake”
