This is an easy crochet pattern for a cute potholder or hot pad. And it’s very functional for those of us who like to cook!
This crochet pattern was inspired by a crochet book, Crochet-opedia, that was a gift from Paul. The book just showed up one day in the mail. And it was a day that I needed a little ‘happy’ in my life. He’s always been thoughtful with gifts – small or large.
I made mine in the exact colors suggested in the pattern. But you could easily modify the yarn colors to match your kitchen or the kitchen of a friend or family member if you intend to make it as a gift. This would make a nice little gift for someone!
This pattern uses some basic stitches but do keep in mind that you will be working in the round with this pattern.
This pot holder pattern is double thickness so it will be more protective. You will make two pot holders exactly the same and then lastly crochet the two together.
Please note in the pattern y0u will be using a size G AND H hook.
I’ve completed some pretty advanced projects and have crocheted for several years but I did learn a new stitch on this pot holder pattern. The last stitch, which is an edging that crochets the two pieces together, is a Reverse Single Crochet stitch. The Reverse Single Crochet stitch is worked from left to right. It does take a little practice and thought since you normally crochet from right to left. But with the directions in the photos, you should be able to catch right on even if you’ve never crocheted this stitch before.
- Make each square simultaneously :
Make two round 1’s
Make two round 2’s
Make two round 3’s
etc……
The skill level is noted as Easy.
Here’s the instructions:
Instructions for the very last stitch, the edging that joins the two potholders together:
Anytime you are making an item for the kitchen make sure you use 100% cotton. Especially if you are making a hot pad or pot holder. Otherwise if you’ve use acrylic yarn and placed something hot on it, the yarn will melt.
